Newcastle United midfielder Sandro Tonali says that all of Inter Milan, AC Milan, and Juventus wanted to sign him.
The Italian international spoke to Cronache di Spogliatoio, via FCInterNews. He looked back on the transfer battle over him in the summer of 2020.
Midfielder Sandro Tonali has been a Newcastle United player for a couple years now.
The Italian joined the Magpies for a massive fee in the summer of 2023.
That came after Tonali had been at AC Milan for three seasons. He joined the Rossoneri from Brescia in the summer of 2020.
Tonali certainly made an impact in his three years with the Rossoneri.
In the Italian international’s second campaign with the club, the 2021-22 season, he won the Serie A title.
But had things gone a bit differently, Tonali could have ended up elsewhere.
It had been no secret that Inter had been admirers of Tonali when he had been a Brescia player. However, they lost out to their derby rivals Milan in the battle for his signature.
Sandro Tonali signed for Milan after he had suffered relegation with Brescia.
The 24-year-old recalled, “It was the summer when I was constantly in the newspaper.”

“Because it would have been hard for me to go back down to Serie B with Brescia,” he looked back.
Tonali said that “Milan, Inter, and Juve were all there in for me all summer long.”
“So everyone was telling me: Come to Inter, come to Milan, come to Juve.”
“If I’m being totally honest,” Tonali continued. “When Milan signed me, I was coming off the back of my last season at Brescia when I had a contract worth €200,000 per season.”
“I had a summer where I never knew who I’d end up signing with,” he noted.
“Until the last five days of the window, I really didn’t know which team I was going to join.”
