The Toon teenagers got off to a flying start as Thomas Old opened the scoring inside six minutes at United's Little Benton Academy.

Mo Waddani, who has represented Libya at under-20 level, was introduced from the bench in place of Matheos Ferreira towards the half-hour mark before the 17-year-old forward made a bright introduction after doubling the hosts' lead before half-time.

Kacey Wooster, who scored eight league goals at under-18 level last season, extended Newcastle's lead shortly after the restart and despite Jake Durrant's stoppage-time red card, Chris Moore's side were able to record a clean sheet, with Scotland youth internationals Oliver Goodbrand and Alfie Hutchison also making their full debuts since both arriving from Rangers.

Fifteen-year-old Jayden Kouossu, who joined the Magpies from West Bromwich Albion last year, was also handed his under-18s debut as a second-half substitute.

Newcastle United Under-18s are back in league action on Saturday, 23rd August when facing an away clash against Wolverhampton Wanderers at the Sir Jack Hayward Training Centre (kick-off 11am BST).
