Bruno Guimaraes is a doubt for Newcastle’s Champions League trip to PSG after limping off during the 3-0 win over PSV Eindhoven on Wednesday.

Eddie Howe said on Friday morning that the extent of the midfielder’s injury remains unknown and stressed caution ahead of Aston Villa on Sunday at 15:00, according to Chronicle Live. He added that Newcastle will give Guimaraes every chance to be involved this weekend while prioritising his long-term wellbeing.

Guimaraes was withdrawn shortly before half-time after a blow to his right ankle.

Since arriving from Lyon in 2022, he has become a fans’ favourite and a key figure, and was named captain in summer 2024.

It is not certain he will feature at the Parc des Princes next Wednesday, a decisive game in which the winner would be virtually assured of a top-8 place in the league phase.
