Sandro Tonali is now well and truly nearing a move to Tottenham, who seem to be racing ahead of competition and edging closer to the Newcastle United star.

Both the Italian and English press have been growing in confidence about the move, which is likely to cost a significant amount.

Sportmediaset report that an agreement between Tottenham and Tonali finally exists, with the player set to sign six-year contract worth €12 million, including bonuses. There is a gap between the Lilywhites and the Magpies but it is edging nearer, with Tottenham confident about reaching a decisive breakthrough next week.

The general consenses has been that the fee would be close to the €100 million mark and could even exceed that. It will break Tottenham’s current transfer record, which stands at €65 million, from when they signed Xavi Simons last summer.

The huge signing will come when Spurs desperately need some of them, as they look to soar back up the table to their usual standards. It is also a sign that the club are ready to back Roberto De Zerbi and form a squad which mirrors his identity and ideas. That has been a bit of a rare case for Tottenham, who have struggled for a viable identity in recent years.
