Neymar confirms Brazil retirement after 2026 World Cup exit | OneFootball

Neymar has confirmed his retirement from Brazil duty after Santos beat Universidad Central de Venezuela 4-2 in the Copa Sudamericana on Wednesday.

According to SuperDepor.com, he said his time with the national team ended after the 2026 World Cup last 16 exit. He had hinted at the move then and now rules out involvement in 2030 qualifying.

He bows out as Brazil’s record scorer with 80 goals and 58 assists in 130 caps, and second for appearances behind Cafu.

He debuted on 10 August 2010 at 18, scoring in a 2-0 win over the United States. He featured at the 2014, 2018, 2022 and 2026 World Cups.

With the senior side he won the 2013 Confederations Cup, where he was named player of the tournament. He also earned Olympic gold at Rio 2016 with the Olympic team.

He never lifted the World Cup or Copa América. His best finals run came in 2014, missing the Germany 7-1 semi-final after a fractured vertebra against Colombia.

After close to 1,000 days out through injuries, he returned for 2026 under Carlo Ancelotti. His final Brazil game was the defeat to Norway, when he converted a penalty.

The 34-year-old remains at Santos on a contract through December 2026, and has yet to decide whether to stay next season or seek a new destination.
