Neymar converted the president’s penalty for Furia in the Kings League in Guarulhos on Monday, only hours after being left out of Carlo Ancelotti’s Brazil squad for friendlies against France and Croatia. Furia lost 7-4 to DesimpaiN.

He arrived at around 17:30 Brasília time with Furia trailing 4-2. According to Globo.com, he watched from the booth until a special card was played and Cris Guedes walked down as if to take the kick.

At the spot, Guedes pointed to the Santos forward, who pulled on his boots and stepped up. The 34-year-old sent the keeper the wrong way, finding the left corner to reduce the deficit. DesimpaiN’s president Renato Vicente then converted his own to stretch the lead.

Under Neymar’s gaze, Furia were beaten in a game that ended amid a brief commotion. It was the first time he had taken the president’s penalty in the competition. Guedes is the usual taker, and Furia are reigning Brazilian and American champions in the format.

On site, Neymar also discussed how it felt to miss this call-up. The official list is due on 19 May, which will confirm whether he goes to this year’s World Cup. Before then the No 10 has 10 Brasileirão matches, two in the Copa do Brasil and four in the Sul-Americana for the Peixe.

He played on Sunday in the 1-1 draw with Corinthians at Vila Belmiro. Earlier on Monday he was at CT Rei Pelé for recovery work with the other starters. He completed the club’s programme before heading to the Kings League event.
