Neymar ‘to miss’ Santos matches before World Cup with right calf injury

According to Globo Esporte, Santos forward Neymar has a slight right calf oedema and will miss the club’s upcoming matches, with medical staff forecasting he could be fit next week to join the national team.

The issue has prompted fresh concern, yet it is not expected to jeopardise the start of his World Cup, based on the same assessment. He is being closely monitored by Brazil’s medical team.

Neymar is among the 26 players called up by Carlo Ancelotti for the tournament in the United States, Canada and Mexico, which runs from 11 June to 19 July. His inclusion was a surprise that split opinion in Brazil and beyond.

Before the finals, Brazil face Panama on 31 May, then Egypt on 6 June, live and exclusive on L’Équipe live foot.

They begin their World Cup campaign against Morocco on 14 June.
