Neymar said he is upset and sad to be left out of Brazil’s March friendlies, yet maintains his focus on the World Cup. He spoke after an appearance in the Kings League in São Paulo.
According to Globo.com, the No 10 regretted not being selected by Carlo Ancelotti but stressed his day-by-day commitment and belief the objective remains in reach, adding there is still a final call-up to come.
There is now only one further call-up before the World Cup in the United States, with the list due on 19 May from the Italian coach. Until then he is scheduled for 10 Brasileirão matches, two in the Copa do Brasil and four in the Copa Sudamericana for Santos.
Whether he will be fit to feature in all of those games, and convince Ancelotti he has regained his physical peak, remains to be seen.
He has made four appearances for Santos this year, scoring two goals. He sat out the Mirassol match for load management, a game Ancelotti attended, and the absence ended his hopes of making this squad. On Monday he completed a short recovery session at CT Rei Pelé before travelling to the capital.
