Santos host Remo on Thursday at 19:00 Brasília time at Vila Belmiro in the ninth round of the Campeonato Brasileiro, 16 years after their last meeting.

Globo.com notes the occasion brings fond memories for Neymar. The sides last met in the 2010 Copa do Brasil second round at the Mangueirão, where Santos won 4-0, Neymar scoring twice and setting up both of André’s goals.

The result removed the need for a return leg and propelled the team towards what became the club’s only Copa do Brasil title.

Neymar opened the scoring on 21 minutes, finishing a Marquinhos pass into Adriano’s bottom corner. On 42 minutes he drove in from the right, beat a defender and the goalkeeper, then squared for André to tap in.

Three minutes into the second half he assisted again, receiving from Arouca before finding André, who controlled and finished for the third. On 36 minutes Maikon Leite was fouled in the box, and Neymar converted the penalty with a stutter step. His second of the night was Santos’ 11,500th goal.

After his first goal, Neymar and his team-mates stood motionless in response to criticism of their dances, later describing it as a statue celebration so no one could call it a dance.

Neymar missed the draw with Cruzeiro on Sunday in the eighth round and should return to the starting line-up against Remo.
