Nico Paz explains decision to reject Real Madrid for Como stay | OneFootball

Nico Paz has on Monday provided an explanation for his call to stay put with Italian outfit Como for the season ahead.

This comes after Real Madrid confirmed the recent speculation that the Argentine has opted against a return to Spain’s capital this summer.

As per a statement across Los Blancos’ website and social media platforms:

‘Real Madrid C.F., Como 1907, and Nico Paz have reached an agreement for the player to remain at the Italian club for the 2026-2027 season.

‘This agreement, which has been made at the player’s own request, also provides that Real Madrid retains a unilateral buy-back option for Nico Paz’s federative rights for the 2027-2028 season.’

The brass at the Bernabéu will now have the chance to bring Paz – fresh off another stellar campaign in Serie A – back for a newly-agreed fee in 12 months’ time.

And as alluded to above, the 21-year-old himself has since gone on to provide an explanation for what is a major call on his future.

In quotes cited by journalist Fabrizio Romano on Monday evening, Paz explained:

“I have decided that the best option for my career at this moment is to stay at Como for another year — the club that gave me the opportunity to grow.

“I personally believe this is the best decision both for me and for Real Madrid.”
