Nico Schlotterbeck has been ruled out of the rest of the 2026 World Cup after suffering an ankle ligament injury against Côte d'Ivoire. Head coach Julian Nagelsmann will have to adjust.

The Borussia Dortmund centre-back started Germany's first two matches, including Saturday's 2-1 win, but was forced off in that game. He faces six to eight weeks out, Sky Sports reports.

He tore the internal ankle ligament, ending his tournament.

Schlotterbeck had scored against Curaçao in the 7-1 victory and was coming off a strong club season.

Antonio Rüdiger should replace him, as he did in the same match.

Germany are guaranteed to finish top of their group before facing Ecuador on Thursday at 22:00.
