Nicolás Otamendi has confirmed the 2026 World Cup will be his final tournament with Argentina. Called up to join Lionel Scaloni's side, the Benfica captain set out his plan while linking up with the Albiceleste.

According to Glorioso 1904, Otamendi told local media his cycle with the national team will end after the tournament, calling it a fact. He added he is happy and keen to savour these last matches as world champions.

He said that once the 2026 finals are over he will simply be another supporter.

On Lionel Messi's future with Argentina, Otamendi explained the squad do not talk about it, they live the moment and enjoy the chance to be together again.

Otamendi missed Benfica's meeting with Vitória de Guimarães before reporting for international duty. This season he has played 43 matches for Benfica, 24 in the Liga Portugal Betclic, 14 in the Champions League, two in the Taça de Portugal, two in the Taça da Liga and one in the Supertaça.

Across 3,809 minutes, the defender has scored three goals. He is valued at €1 million.
