Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has dismissed speculation linking him with a move away from the Scottish champions this summer.
He insists that there is ‘absolutely no chance’ that he will walk away before the end of his three-year contract.
Rodgers is in the final year of his contract with Celtic, but there hasn’t been any significant update on a new deal, which has fuelled speculation about his future.
He has also come under heavy scrutiny over the past few weeks, with supporters voicing concerns over the lack of transfer activity and the club’s faltering start in Champions League qualifying.
Celtic kicked off their Champions League qualifier with a frustrating goalless draw against Kazakhstan side Kairat Almaty.
That only heightened the tension, with fans making their frustrations clear in midweek.
There are question marks about Rodgers’ future, with many people suggesting he could be tempted to walk away frustrated by the club’s quiet summer window.
However, Rodgers was in no mood to fuel rumours. Speaking at Friday’s press conference, he gave a sharp response when asked if he could quit before his contract runs out.
“Absolutely no chance,” he said. “We’ve done that before – it didn’t go down well.
“We had the chances over the summer [of contract talks], but I said, ‘now the season starts, I only want to think of the football’.
“I don’t want to think of the contract, just think of the football, and that will come later on if it does. I said I’d be here for three years, and I’m here for three years.”
Rodgers has made it clear that he needs reinforcements, especially after losing several key players to transfers and injuries.
He has been forced to work with a thin squad and admitted after Wednesday’s stalemate that the lack of signings ahead of such an important fixture was not his decision.
However, he stressed there is ‘certainly no conflict’ in his relationship with the board.
