Alexander Nübel’s future remains completely open – but a signal from FC Bayern speaks a clear language. The international goalkeeper apparently no longer plays a central role in current plans
While Nübel is currently with the German national team and hoping to get some minutes of action, the situation surrounding his club future continues to come to a head. After three years on loan at VfB Stuttgart, there are many indications that they could part ways again in the summer
Developments behind the scenes are particularly explosive : as reported by the Abendzeitung München, Bayern bosses Max Eberl and Christoph Freund have not yet held any talks with Nübel’s camp
What’s more, since his contract was extended in April 2024, there has reportedly been no communication at all between the club and player, with only goalkeeping coach Michael Rechner maintaining sporadic contact
This reticence is seen as a clear sign by those close to the club that Nübel does not currently play a major role in the record champions‘ sporting plans
It is also unlikely that Nübel will remain at VfB Stuttgart, as the Swabians are planning to sign youngster Dennis Seimen, who is currently still gaining match practice at SC Paderborn
Although a return to Munich is contractually possible – his contract runs until 2029 – the path seems to be blocked from a sporting perspective
With Manuel Neuer, the up-and-coming Jonas Urbig and other options, the goalkeeping hierarchy at FC Bayern is clearly structured

The situation is also financially complicated. FC Bayern are currently paying a large part of Nübel’s salary. It is questionable whether Munich would be prepared to bear these costs again in the event of another loan
Meanwhile, VfB are deliberately keeping a low profile, with sporting director Fabian Wohlgemuth recently stating: „I wouldn’t rule out anything in soccer.“ At the same time, he emphasized that it was still too early to make a decision at the moment
It all boils down to a landmark decision in the summer. For Nübel, it’s about finding a club where he can be a long-term number one
The signal from Munich is clear: FC Bayern is not backing the 29-year-old.
