Brendan Rodgers has managed to make the headlines in a day that saw Celtic increase their lead at the top while Clement reverted to type by blaming match officials for his own side’s failings…

Love him (us) or loathe him (them) no-one can’t deny that Brendan is box office!

Brendan had a pop at certain Celtic supporters for their lack of patience when it comes to their expectations, whilst questioning their lack of respect towards one of our own players.

A degree of patience needed

Brendan certainly rattled more than a few cages when he had a pop at the supporters expectations of his players. The Irishman reckons that the supporters need to show a degree of patience during games as they tend to grumble when things don’t go as they expected.

That is true to an extent and if you are a regular at Celtic park you will know that for yourself. As Brendan says, if we aren’t a goal or two up after twenty minutes then the supporters tend to get on the players backs, and football doesn’t work like that no matter who you are playing.

It can be pretty annoying to be honest, but the supporters pay their money and are entitled to their views just as Brendan is entitled to his opinion on the very matter.

Green Brigade’s KT chant upset Greg Taylor and Brendan

His other gripe was with supporters singing about Kieran Tierney who is heavily linked with a return to the club. Brendan reckons it’s disrespectful to Greg Taylor who is still at the club, and he has a point, but the supporters are surely entitled to sing positively about whatever player they want, past or present.

Whether you think Brendan is right or wrong is all a matter of opinion. We are all entitled to one after all. Even us Celtic supporters. Yesterday the KT song was hardly heard by most folk in the stadium and any groans were nothing out of the ordinary.

The last straw for Taylor

Maybe the chant was the straw that broke the camel’s back in terms of the pressure that Greg Taylor is under regarding his future. He is well respected among the Celtic support but like all players he has his critics.  So does Brendan and so does every Celtic site or podcast who states an opinion.

If or when Kieran Tierney returns he’s have his critics too. Injury prone, not the player he was before he left etc. As for the moans and groans – every Celtic manager and every Celtic team, including Jock Stein and the Lisbon Lions had to deal with that. It’s nothing new Brendan.

The problem with chants is that not every player has one. The Green Brigade spent much of yesterday trying to launch a CCV song but others such as Celtic legend James Forrest has never had one. Greg Taylor the same.

The Green Brigade should sing “There’s Only One Greg Taylor” on Wednesday night to show than no offence was intended towards GT with their KT chant. Then Greg and Brendan should kiss and make-up by going over the the North Curve after the match.
