The open flirtation with leaving Chelsea by Enzo Fernandez has gone down very badly, and on his podcast John Obi Mikel pointed out that it showed the total lack of leaders in the Chelsea dressing room.

“That’s not a leader. If you have leaders that players respect and look up to, you wouldn’t come out and make that statement. Because you’d be thinking ‘how is this going to go down with the top players, the big players, when they get to see this?’ When they see this, that you’ve been dumped out of the Champions League, and you’ve made that statement.

Enzo knows nobody will hold him to account for actions

“He’s looked at it thinking ‘who’s going to hold me responsible in that dressing room? No-one. The leadership is not there. I can come out and say whatever I want and no-one is going to hold me accountable’, and that’s exactly what happened.”

It’s true. It’s not just about Enzo himself failing as a leader, it’s about there being nobody above him who he’s worried about holding him to account.
