Magpies supporters don't appear to be too impressed with the appointment of their new manager.
Notts County have confirmed the appointment of their new head coach Martin Paterson, and Magpies fans haven't taken the news well.
Confirmed as County's new boss on 22 June, the 38-year-old takes his first step back into full-time management at Meadow Lane, having left Burton Albion following the conclusion of the 2023/24 season.
It was during his brief stint as Brewers boss in the second half of that campaign that saw him lead his side to League One safety, and has also spent time working as an assistant manager at clubs such as Swansea City, Barnsley and Inter Miami respectively.
Andy Edwards and Sam Slocombe will also be joining Paterson's backroom team.
However, it appears that a significant number of Notts County fans aren't best pleased with the club's decision to appoint Paterson as Stuart Maynard's successor.
Announcing the news via their official X account on Sunday, Magpies supporters were quick to largely voice their concerns over the former Stoke, Burnley, Huddersfield Town and Northern Ireland international becoming their new head coach.
One fan wrote: "No wonder no serious manager wanted to come to us. A meeting before the game for the “technical board” to decide the team is a joke imo (in my opinion)."
Another said: "Hoping Luke Williams is at work so he can direct me to a flight far far away from this," - a reference to the ex-Swansea City manager recently being spotted working at Bristol Airport.
"Led Burton to Safety? They were 17th when he was appointed then only survived on the final day... This could turn toxic if he starts badly. Huge risk here," another worried County fan wrote.
One Notts fan honed in on Paterson's win record as Burton boss, saying: "'Paterson has gone on to build an impressive coaching CV'. He's got a 25% win rate lads, what's impressive about that?"
"Major doubts about this appointment. I always want everything to work out when it comes to Notts as I only want the very best for the club, but this new coaching structure seems overly steeped in data-heavy approaches. Whilst it’s progressive, I can’t see it leading to promotion," another said.
"I feel bad for saying this, because the Brothers have been so good for the club - and, obviously, we should get behind our new manager, which I will - but this seems a very, very strange appointment." yet another skeptical County supporter wrote.
Another fan said: "Wow all that wait for such an underwhelming appointment first time I’ve really stared worry about what direction we are taking !! Not happy !!"
It's safe to say that Paterson's appointment hasn't gone down well with the majority of Notts County fans.
Their skepticism is understandable too, as the 38-year-old possesses just a few months of management experience with Burton.
Winning promotion to League One will be his obvious remit for the 2025/26 season, and given his only experience of leading a team was in a relegation battle, he's yet to prove himself capable of orchestrating a promotion-standard side.
Therefore, should his County team get off to a slow start next season, it may not be long before the Meadow Lane faithful begin turning on their head coach.
It's a high-risk appointment by the club, one that if it pays off they will look like geniuses. But, if it crashes and burns like many fans are fearing it will, fan confidence of those in positions of power at the club may well reach a worrisome low.
