Noah Okafor has been shortlisted for April’s Premier League Player of the Month after a prolific spell for Leeds United. According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, he produced three goals and one assist as Daniel Farke’s side took seven points from three games.
Leeds recorded first back-to-back league wins of the campaign by beating Manchester United and Wolves, then drew 2-2 at Bournemouth.
At Old Trafford, a first-half Okafor brace delivered a 2-1 victory, the club’s first league win there since 1981, after finishes from a Jayden Bogle cross and a deflected volley.
He set up James Justin’s bicycle-kick opener and scored less than 90 seconds later, before Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s added-time penalty sealed a 3-0 win.
Okafor also featured as Leeds twice came from behind to draw 2-2 at Bournemouth, and he is on an eight-man shortlist. West Ham captain Jarrod Bowen is included after four assists, with Konstantinos Mavropanos recognised for two goals. Nottingham Forest’s Morgan Gibbs-White is also named after a match-winning second-half hat-trick against Burnley.
Manchester City pair Nico O’Reilly and Rayan Cherki are nominated, as is Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott. Fan voting closes at 12pm on Monday, May 4, with an expert panel helping determine the winner. Okafor could join Calvert-Lewin, who won December’s award after six goals in five during an unbeaten month.
Okafor is a doubt for Friday’s visit of managerless Burnley after a calf knock in Sunday’s FA Cup defeat at Chelsea. Farke said there is a question mark over Okafor and Jaka Bijol, adding he hopes to have both available but cannot yet confirm it.
