Lennart Karl continues to make headlines at FC Bayern – this time it’s about his contractual future. Max Eberl has now given his first concrete statement and provides exciting insights behind the scenes.

At just 17 years of age, the youngster is one of the key players in Vincent Kompany’s team. There has recently been public speculation about a possible contract extension, but according to Eberl, there is currently no acute need for action. In an interview with Sport BILD, the sports director made it clear: „We already tied Lennart Karl to us long-term last summer.“

According to kicker, Karl’s contract is automatically extended until 2029 on his 18th birthday in February – a clause that gives the Munich club planning security. Although there have recently been reports of a possible new mega offer, the player himself does not seem to feel any pressure. He is concentrating entirely on his sporting development and is deliberately putting contract issues to one side.

Eberl: „That’s why the clauses are now taking effect“

Eberl emphasized in the interview with regard to the negotiations last summer: „We had very good talks with Michael Ballack and were convinced that he [Karl] would get his chance with us.“ This is exactly what happened: The attacking midfielder has established himself with consistently good performances and cemented his role in the professional squad. The result: „He has done very well, which is why the clauses in his [Profi-]contract are now taking effect.“

Internally, Karl is still regarded as a key player of the future. According to kicker, the club still wants to keep him at the club for the long term beyond 2029. But this will require tact and, above all, patience, as the 17-year-old wants to concentrate on the pitch above all else.

Nevertheless, Eberl is positive about the development: „Nobody needs to worry about Lennart. He is secure and we are very happy that the strategy has worked out.“
