Nordi Mukiele says Sunderland will fight until the end of the season as they chase an improbable European place.

“We started the season really well and that’s why we are here today. Everyone knows that the league is really long. We started well and then had some difficult moments which is totally normal. We got injuries, players going to AFCON and that is not easy to manage. I think we did that so well though because when we look at the table and see where we are, that means we did well.” He was speaking to the club’s official website.

The Frenchman decided Sunday’s 1-0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur at the Stadium of Light, his heavily deflected shot earning all three points for Regis Le Bris’ side.

The result leaves the Black Cats two points adrift of sixth-placed Chelsea.

“We know we have six games left and we know we have to try and reach something different because we know our target at the beginning of the season is done now. With this team and this quality that we have, we can reach something else. We will fight for this until the end of the season.”
