The former Norwich City man's predictions won't have Canaries fans feeling too happy

Former Norwich City forward Darren Huckerby has predicted that Canaries frontman Josh Sargent could find his way to their East Anglian rivals Ipswich Town soon enough.

Marcelino Nunez shocked the Championship when he became the first player since Andy Marshall in 2001 to make the switch from Carrow Road to Portman Road, and perhaps that could be setting a precedent for future deals?

Sargent has been one of the best second-tier strikers over the past couple of seasons, with injuries stopping him from winning multiple Golden Boot awards. The last two campaigns have seen him net 31 in 58 games, and he's kept up his strong form in front of goal this term, netting five in the opening 10.

Despite this, Norwich have been poor under Liam Manning, winning just twice and sitting two points above the bottom three. The American had top-flight interest in the summer, and if this poor form continues, it should only be a matter of time before he moves on to bigger and better things.

But are those new pastures in Ipswich? Darren Huckerby has commented on that prospect happening.

Darren Huckerby ended his career in the EFL with Norwich, playing over 200 games in five years and winning a couple of Player of the Year awards.

He's clearly still a fan favourite and often engages with Canaries fans on X about the current state of the club.

Huckerby was frustrated with the lack of quality in the current Norwich side outside the American talisman, which brings even more frustration given that they are regularly among the highest spending Championship sides in recent transfer windows.

Someone replied, suggesting that Sargent could be on Ipswich's radar in January, to which the 49-year-old replied: "Genuinely think that could happen!"

It'd be a damning sign if the deal does come off, as it would further indicate the turn of the tide when it comes to who the premier side is in East Anglia.

The Canaries have spent more time recently in the Premier League and had a 16-year unbeaten run in the derby with Ipswich. However, now it seems like the Tractor Boys are more top-flight ready, as shown through their ability to bring Norwich's best players to Portman Road, and they picked up a big win earlier this month against their rivals to snap the streak.

Norwich City will surely not sanction another cross-rivalry deal after Marcelino Nunez transfer

The reaction online from Ipswich and their fans when Nunez was confirmed as their new player and the Chilean's subsequent celebrations after the 3-1 win at Portman Road were downright embarrassing for some Canaries fans.

It'd be nightmareish if Sargent was allowed to make the move to Ipswich, as it would only further the narrative that the Tractor Boys are the biggest team in East Anglia.

There's no doubt that the American is a standout player in an otherwise very poor Norwich side, and if results continue, the likelihood he departs in January will be very high, either to a side with top-flight ambitions, like Ipswich, or even to one already there.

However, Norwich should have learned their lesson not to deal with their rivals, especially so soon after the Nunez move.
