Towards the end of his playing career back in 2017, Philipp Lahm was offered the position as Bayern Munich sporting director but chose to turn it down.
The 42-year-old World Cup winner later opened up the possibility of returning to his former club in an interview with Abendzeitung just over a year ago, saying he could “certainly imagine” stepping into a management role at FC Bayern.
However, asked by Bulinews.com at a media roundtable on Sunday whether that remains the case, Lahm made it clear it's not currently under consideration.
“There are no talks with FC Bayern at the moment,” Lahm told Bulinews.com, adding:
“I often meet people in decision-making positions at FC Bayern, for example at the Madrid game (in the Champions League, editor’s note), but I don’t talk to them about a role for me at the club.
“There were talks after the end of my playing career, but the timing simply wasn’t right.
“We’ll see what happens in the future, taking a job at FC Bayern is not a topic for me at the moment.”
Philipp Lahm has worked across a range of fields since retiring from football in 2017.
As managing director of DFB-Euro GmbH, he helped Germany’s successful bid for Euro 2024 and played a key role in organising the tournament.
He's also an advisor to VfB Stuttgart, writes columns for The Athletic, and has been involved in various business ventures.
