Former Chelsea striker Chris Sutton was not impressed with the performance of goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen against Lincoln.

The Blues scraped past Lincoln with a 2-1 win which sees them advance to the fourth round of the Carabao Cup, but it was very much a night to forget for Chelsea.

Enzo Maresca’s men headed in 1-0 down at the break after an awful first half performance, and they were booed off by the travelling Chelsea supporters.

Chris Sutton not impressed with Filip Jorgensen

Maresca named a surprisingly strong line-up which saw Enzo Fernandez captain the side and a first Chelsea start for Alejandro Garancho.

Robert Sanchez was suspended, but likely wouldn’t have featured anyway, which meant a first start of the season for Jorgensen.

Jorgensen had a difficult evening as he struggled to deal with the Lincoln onslaught as they launched balls into the box.

The Dane looked uncomfortable coming for crosses, and flapped at the ball on a number of occasions, whilst generally looking shaky between the sticks.

Maresca defended Jorgensen for his performance, but Sutton wasn’t impressed with what he saw from the former Villarreal man.

“Jorgensen has not convinced tonight,” he said as quoted by BBC Sport.

“He’s struggled with deliveries into the box. He’s been a bit of a flapper.”

Chelsea have a lack of quality in goal

The majority of Chelsea fans wanted a new goalkeeper in the summer, but the Blues stuck with the same options as last season.

Chelsea had the opportunity to sign Mike Maignan, but refused to meet AC Milan’s asking price, whilst Gianluigi Donnarumma was also available, although the Blues opted against going in for the Italy international.

Sanchez, whilst a good shot stopper has shown he’s got mistakes in his game, whilst Jorgensen hasn’t shown much in the appearances he’s made.

It seems Chelsea could be pinning their hopes on youngster Mike Penders, who’s currently on loan at Strasbourg as the solution to their problems between the sticks.
