Nottingham Forest have confirmed the appointment of Sean Dyche as their new manager.

The 54-year-old replaces Ange Postecoglou, who was dismissed just eight games into his tenure after failing to register a single win.

Dyche is Forest’s third manager of the campaign, following earlier spells under Nuno Espirito Santo and Postecoglou.

He will take charge of his first game when Forest host Porto in the Europa League on Thursday, before a crucial Premier League visit to Bournemouth this weekend.

Forest are 18th in the table, having won just one of their opening eight league matches.

The club ultimately settled on Dyche after considering other options, including former Manchester City and Italy boss Roberto Mancini, and Fulham’s Marco Silva.

Dyche, a former Forest youth player, returns to the City Ground nearly three decades after his time in the club’s academy.

He will be joined by assistants Ian Woan and Steve Stone, both Forest icons who made more than 400 combined appearances for the club in the 1990s.

Forest described Dyche as a respected Premier League manager whose blend of character, discipline and tactical nous makes him an ideal fit for the club’s ambitions.

The statement emphasised that his appointment represents the ‘best opportunity for a successful and competitive season across domestic and European competitions’.

Dyche last managed Everton, guiding them to safety in the 2023-24 season despite two separate points deductions for breaches of financial rules.

He was sacked in January with the club sitting 16th in the table, before David Moyes led them to a mid-table finish.

Dyche previously spent a decade at Burnley, where he transformed them into a resilient and hard-working outfit that enjoyed six consecutive Premier League seasons and qualified for Europe.

Known for his structured defending, intensity, and emphasis on direct attacking transitions, Dyche’s approach closely aligns with the squad Forest have assembled.

Players such as Murillo, Nikola Milenkovic, Mats Selz and Chris Wood are expected to suit his compact, physically robust system.

Dyche’s arrival signals a return to stability and pragmatism for Forest – hallmarks that could be vital as the club look to secure Premier League survival and restore a sense of direction.
