The start of the new Championship season doesn't mean the closure of the transfer window, and Norwich City may be about to face a fight to hang onto one of their most talented young players.

The Canaries have had a mixed start to the new season, with a win and a defeat from their two league matches leaving them mid-table, and a 2-1 win at Watford in the First Round of the EFL Cup.

Right-back Kellen Fisher has already attracted the interest of Everton this summer, and it's now reported that a second Premier League club has joined the chase for the signature of the England Under-20 international, who was the Canaries' Young Player of the Season for 2024-25.

Journalist Pete O'Rourke has reported via X on Tuesday evening that Nottingham Forest have joined the chase for Kellen Fisher, who's already attracted the interest of Everton this summer.

O'Rourke reports that Forest have made an enquiry to Norwich over the availability of the young defender.

Everton's interest in the player was reported by Football Insider last week, as they seek to rebuild for their Premier League season.

There's been no indication of what the two clubs would be prepared to pay for Fisher, but considering that Fisher has become a key part of Liam Manning's squad and his potential for the future, it's expected that any bids to take the player from Carrow Road would need to be substantial.

The 21-year-old is contracted with the Canaries until the summer of 2028, having penned a new four-year deal with the Norfolk-based club last summer.

Kellen Fisher is yet another example of the strength in depth that can be found within the English football pyramid.

He came through the academy system at Bromley and made his debut for them in the National League in 2022, before transferring to Norwich in the summer of 2023.

And Fisher has been a hit since arriving at Carrow Road. Even though he only turned 21 years of age in May, he's already racked up 58 appearances for Norwich, of which 49 have come in the Championship.

Fisher didn't only win Norwich's Young Player of the Season for 2024-25 either. He was also the runner-up in the voting for their Player of the Year award behind Josh Sargent.

Manning will not want to lose such an accomplished young player, especially since he has the room to develop further as a player, and there's nothing to suggest that Fisher is unhappy at Carrow Road.

Speaking at the time of his Young Player of the Year award, he told the club website that, "It's credit to the coaching staff that have helped me get there, and the players and the fans that have pushed me on even more to better myself to try and play a lot more week in, week out."

But the news that another club has joined the chase for his signature is, on balance, good news for the Canaries, even if losing him turns out to be a disappointment.

If two clubs are interested in the same player, it's possible that there could be a bidding war for him, and while the club wouldn't want to lose Fisher, at least two clubs bidding for him increases the likelihood of them being prepared to pay more for his signature.

If Norwich City do end up losing this talented young player, the addition of a second name into the mix for him increases their chances of getting more money for him.
