The 26-year-old joins the club until the end of the 2025/26 season.

In quotes circulated to the media, Nottingham Forest head coach Carly Davies said: “We are delighted to have Leanne join the club for the remainder of the season from Liverpool.

“Leanne is a player with proven quality at the highest level both on the domestic and international level. She brings a wealth of experience in this league, having won the division with Liverpool in 2021-22.

“She will bring a new dynamic to our attacking threat, and we are excited to see her play in the Garibaldi Red.”

Kiernan added: “I’m really pleased to have joined Nottingham Forest.

“I can’t wait to get started with this team and begin playing with this talented group of players.”

Leanne Kiernan: Her career so far

Kiernan’s senior career started in Ireland with Women’s Premier Division side Shelbourne, where she spent more than three years, scoring 37 times and helping them to the league title, WNL Cup and FAI Women’s Cup. For her own contributions, she was named WNL Young Player of the Year.

In July 2018, Kiernan moved to England to join Women’s Super League team West Ham United, and signed for Liverpool in 2021 when they were still in the Championship. She scored 14 times as the Reds won the second tier title in 2021-22, and now has 76 appearances for the club.

Internationally, she has represented the Republic of Ireland over 35 times, earning her first cap in 2016 and scoring the match-winning goal on her debut.

Nottingham Forest: Their season so far

Nottingham Forest are currently sixth in the WSL2 table. They have two tough fixtures coming up – first a trip to second-placed Birmingham City this weekend, and then hosting leaders Charlton Athletic next weekend.

They reached the fourth round of the Women’s FA Cup but were knocked out 2-0 by WSL side Brighton and Hove Albion.
