Premier League club Nottingham Forest have offered £14 million for Celtic midfielder Arne Engels ahead of tomorrow’s deadline, according to Sky Sports.

However, Celtic have rejected the bid as manager Martin O’Neill will not allow the Belgian to leave given his importance to the team.

The Bhoys star has bagged five goals and seven assists in 36 appearances for the Scottish Premiership club this term, and losing him midway through the campaign would be a big blow.

Celtic have been dealt a blow in their pursuit of DAC Dunajska Streda’s as RB Salzburg have agreed a deal to sign him.

The Hoops opened talks with the Slovakian club on Thursday for the player after identifying him as an alternative if a move for Frosinone’s Fares Ghedjemis falls through.

The Serie B club are expected to hold on to their attack, but Celtic are in advanced talks with Lorient for Joel Mvuka.

They are not keen to lose Engels right now, but Forest could return with an improved bid as they are desperate to strengthen in attack.

The Premier League club want to hold on to their top-flight status after a disappointing campaign, but it is unclear if an improved bid will tempt Celtic.

Engels wants to remain at the club but is out of contract in the summer of 2028 and could be open to an exit at the end of the season.

The Hoops are six points behind league leaders Hearts after 24 games, but are ahead of Rangers due to a superior goal difference following the results this weekend.

They will do all they can to retain the title, and holding on to Engels could be crucial to their chances.
