Nuno Espirito Santo has said it’s ‘almost impossible’ to improve on Nottingham Forest’s start to the season after a 3-1 win over Brentford at the City Ground.

Forest raced into a three-goal lead after a scintillating first-half performance, with Chris Wood on target twice and debutant Dan Ndoye scoring his first goal for the club.

Wood prodded home an opener inside five minutes for Nuno’s side, before a quick-fire double before half-time but the hosts in firm control.

Ndoye headed home the second on 42 minutes after a wonderful Morgan Gibbs-White cross, before Elliot Anderson threaded through Wood with a brilliant pass to net the third.

Igor Thiago pulled a goal back for Brentford from the penalty spot after the break but Forest were never in real danger of losing the points.

Speaking to Forest TV at full-time, Nuno said it would be difficult to improve on his side’s start.

“It was a good start to the game and a good start to the season. I’m really pleased, I think we played really well.

“The boys were on fire in the way they started the game. We got the first goal to settle everything down then we had the energy from the fans and everything started to flow. It’s almost impossible to ask for a better start.

“Just before our second goal, Brentford had a good chance, but for the rest of the half we were in control of the game, with and without the ball, pressing, controlling the movements of Brentford and their players.

“Now this week we have to recover and work harder and see how the week progresses ahead of another tough game next week.

“Today we couldn’t have asked for anymore, the City Ground was loud and bouncing, it was a beautiful day for us.

“Dan (Ndoye) played well today, he stuck to his defensive tasks which is always important, but he is so talented and honestly, I think he has much more to give.”
