NYCFC vs FC Cincinnati preview: 3 points, please, and nothing less

New York City FC will be under a lot of pressure on Wednesday night when the team plays against FC Cincinnati.  The Pigeons lost to Charlotte FC over the weekend, struggling to score in an impressive offensive effort.  As good as they were in the attack, Charlotte had the upper hand defensively, and the lackluster attempts did not help.  There was a late goal, but that is not good enough.

Now, the Bronx side must pick up all three points at home against a struggling Cincinnati side. Anything less is not okay.  And of course, in order to win, they need a similar offensive performance.  The difference is that they need to score and not make any defensive errors.

Offensively, there is some argument, despite Pascal Jansen’s hesitation, that Talles Magno should start.  He has been impactful as a substitute and scored a hat-trick in the U.S. Open Cup.  Again, this match has to end in a win, and it would not hurt to give the Brazilian a chance since others have not fully done their job in the attack.

So, to not wait any longer, here is a preview of the match between NYCFC and FC Cincinnati.

NYCFC vs FC Cincinnati preview

Date

NYCFC and FC Cincinnati will face one another on Wednesday, April 22.

Time

The game will begin at 7:30 PM ET.

Location

The fixture will take place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, NY.

How to watch

Fans can watch the match on Apple TV.

Weather

It will be an okay night to watch the Boys in Blue.  It will be around 53 degrees with mostly cloudy skies.  The good news is that there is only a slight chance of rain, so it should stay dry.

Injury report

Once again, Drew Baiera (leg), Alonso Martínez (leg), Max Murray (leg), and Andrés Perea (leg) are unavailable for the match.

Players to watch

NYCFC fans should watch Matt Freese.  The goalkeeper has to be at his very best, and possibly step up in crazy ways.  Many of the goals allowed this season are arguably ones that nobody would save.  But he still needs to make the ones that he should, and knows Cincinnati is still threatening despite their rough start to the season.

On Cincinnati, fans should watch Nick Hagglund.  He is one of the more underrated defenders in Major League Soccer and has been known to make life difficult for opposing teams.  Likely, the player attempting to score should not be near him, for otherwise, any attempt will be null and void.

If the prediction is not a positive one, then hope will be gone.  So, that is why it is predicted that NYCFC will win 2-0.  The backline will do very well this time around, and Cincinnati’s own struggles will lead to their undoing.
