Nygren certainly proving his worth as a Celtic player

Benjamin Nygren is certainly proving his worth as a Celtic player, last night yet again grabbing an all important winner at Falkirk. Surely it’s time we all gave him the recognition and respect he deserves…

Benjamin Nygren isn’t exactly flavour of the month amongst the Celtic support, and is regularly described as something of an ‘enigma’ but last night he proved his worth yet again as he scored what proved to be the only goal in a vital 1-0 win over Falkirk at the Falkirk Stadium. It was a huge, huge goal, and one that could prove vital in the title run in.

That goal was Benji’s 12th goal in a Celtic shirt, in just 33 appearances. The Swedish international has also registered six assists, giving him 18 goal contributions so far, making him undoubtedly our most productive player in a disappointing campaign to date.

That’s an impressive record by anyone’s standards, even more so for a player who’s been utilised in several different positions, and started his fair share of games on the bench. He also is a new signing and look around at the players bought in the summer for much higher fees and compare their collective contributions against the Sweden international’s.

Benji has a knack of being at the right place at the right time, and although he can fluff several opportunities, he more often than not contributes to the side, as goals like last night, and his overall record proves. Last night’s goal was far from being his best but it may well turn out to be his most important.

The former Nordsjaelland man is also still settling into the Scottish game, and the fact that he’s played under four different managers, if you count MON twice, then it’s been under rather difficult circumstances, a scenario that would be tricky for any player never mind one that’s just in the door.

He may have his faults, but he’s only 24 and is still to reach his peak years, and hopefully those years will be spent at Celtic, because if that’s him underperforming, then he’s going to be some player when he hits top form!

Benji isn’t the greatest player in the world, but he’s one that contributes massively to our side in terms of goals and assists. Surely it’s time to give him the recognition and respect he deserves?
