Strengthening their forward line was one of the main objectives for FC Barcelona for this summer transfer window. The Catalans were looking mainly for a striker, especially since Robert Lewandowski has confirmed his departure from the Blaugrana club.

However, Deco has moved quickly to secure a signing for the wings, and has got his hands on one of the most exciting wingers in the Premier League, i.e., the Newcastle United forward Anthony Gordon.

Although Barcelona have been linked with him for some time now, these links strengthened considerably only in the last few days, when the operation for his signing was already well advanced.

In these last few hours, he has already landed in the Catalan city, and also passed his medical test with the club. Now, Barcelona have also officially announced his signing as he has signed a deal with the Catalan club until 2031.

There is no doubt that the Englishman is a very exciting addition to Hansi Flick’s team, even though getting a starting spot would be incredibly difficult for him, keeping in view that he would have to compete with Raphinha.

However, he would still be a very good complement to the Brazilian forward, and his presence in the squad would allow Flick to have another profile that suits his playing style very well.

In the 2025-26 season, he scored 17 goals and provided 5 assists in 46 games across all competitions, with 6 of these goals and 2 of these assists coming in the Premier League. Furthermore, at 25 years of age, his prime might still be ahead of him, and he can continue playing at the highest level for several more years.

Meanwhile, his signing would be bad news for Marcus Rashford, as with the arrival of Anthony Gordon, Barcelona would have no need to keep him in their squad beyond this season. Hopefully, the latter would have an even better first season at the Blaugrana club than the former did.
