Bafana Bafana winger Mihlali Mayambela has inked a deal with Cyprus League side Omonia Nicosia, committing his future to the club until May 2028.
This move comes after the 29-year-old and Aris Limassol agreed to part ways earlier on Thursday, making Mayambela a free agent and opening the door for him to join any club of his choice.
Mayambela first joined Limassol in July 2022 and played a pivotal role in helping them clinch the Cyprus League title and the Cyprus Super Cup, as well as making appearances in the UEFA Europa League.
During his stint with Limassol, he notched up 125 appearances, contributing 19 goals and 15 assists.
Now, the versatile attacker embarks on a fresh challenge with Cypriot heavyweights Omonia, a club boasting 21 league titles, with their most recent success coming in the 2020/21 season.
Mayambela's new team currently sits at the summit of the league standings, five points clear of second-placed AEK Larnaca, who have collected 40 points from 19 matches.
The South African international, who has found the net twice in 16 appearances for Bafana, will now share the dressing room with former Manchester City striker Stevan Jovetic.
Interestingly, Mayambela had previously been linked with a blockbuster move to Soweto giants Kaizer Chiefs in the Betway Premiership, but the deal never came to fruition.
