It has been some days since the FC Barcelona team returned to training after enjoying some well-deserved vacations, and the group is currently preparing for its preseason tour of Asia.
The Blaugranes are set to leave for this tour of Japan and South Korea tomorrow, on 24th July. During this preseason tour, Hansi Flick’s side will play three friendlies, against Vissel Kobe in Japan and against FC Seoul and Daegu FC in South Korea.
However, there will be another game for the Barcelona fans to enjoy after these friendlies and before the start of the next season. This game will be none other than the Joan Gamper Trophy match, which takes place every year.
As Mundo Deportivo reports, the Blaugrana team’s rivals for this game have already been finalized, as this year they will face the Italian side Como 1907.
As the Catalans have officially confirmed, this match will be played on August 10th, at the Estadi Johan Cruyff, the venue where the Catalans also played against Juventus back in 2021.
Previously, this match was expected to take place at the Spotify Camp Nou. However, the stadium’s renovation work is still not complete, which forces the organizers to move this traditional match away to Sant Joan Despi.
This match against Como will be special for several reasons. Firstly, despite the more than a century-long history of the two clubs, this will be the first time they face off, either in a friendly or an official game.
Secondly, two illustrious former Barcelona players will return to the Catalan city for this game: Cesc Fabregas as the manager of Como and Sergi Roberto as one of its players. Alex Valle, who finalized his permanent transfer to the Italian club after a half-season loan, will also return to face his former side.
Como was one of the revelation sides in the Italian Serie A last season, finishing 10th right after their return to the top-flight after a break of 21 years. There is no doubt that this will be a highly exciting match between the two sides, with a lot to look out for.
