La Liga champions Barcelona have on Monday announced an injury setback in the club’s first-team ranks.
The player to have picked up the problem? Frenkie de Jong.
Midfielder De Jong was for his part forced into a premature departure from international duty with the Netherlands late last week.
After the former Ajax man was hauled off prematurely in the country’s World Cup qualifying meeting with Poland, Ronald Koeman confirmed that De Jong was struggling with a fitness issue.
The 28-year-old, in turn, made the trip back to base in Catalunya’s capital.
After being put through an initial round of tests and scans over the weekend, De Jong returned to the Ciutat Esportiva for a more in-depth examination on Monday.
And as per a statement across Barcelona’s website and social media platforms, as much has confirmed the following:
‘The player Frenkie de Jong has suffered a slight injury to the external obturator muscle in his right leg. His recovery will determine his availability.’
