At a time when Barcelona have been struggling for form, one of the major weaknesses was spotted in midfield.
With Pedri injured, the club have struggled to dominate the game in the same way while others, such as Frenkie de Jong, have not been as effective without the Spaniard either.
But after missing a few weeks due to injury, Barcelona have finally received medical clearance for Pedri.
In an official statement, Barcelona have confirmed Pedri has received the medical clearance to participate in matches.
This means the Spanish international is now available to play, though he was not fully fit to start against Levante.
The midfielder has started on the bench, with Frenkie de Jong and Marc Bernal operating in the double-pivot.
Heading into this game, Hansi Flick had confirmed that Pedri would be available to play a few minutes against Levante.
Therefore, it won’t be surprising to see the young midfielder coming on as a late substitute against Luis Castro’s men.
In addition to Pedri, Barcelona have further confirmed that Marcus Rashford, too, has received the medical clearance. He was also included on the bench heading into the Levante game.
Whether or not the Englishman takes part remains to be seen. But he did train normally heading into this game.
Beyond the Levante game, the return of Pedri and Rashford could go a long way in aiding Barcelona’s chances, as the club gear up for a crucial juncture of the campaign.
As mentioned earlier, Pedri has been a vital cog in Barça’s midfield and his return could significantly boost Barcelona’s title claim. Rashford, too, could serve as an ideal alternative for the attack, which has appeared far too reliant on Raphinha and Lamine Yamal.
