Following Hansi Flick’s outburst against La Liga and the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) on Friday over the way FC Barcelona’s fixtures have been scheduled, the club have issued a statement standing in support of the manager.

Flick’s anger came about over the scheduling of Barcelona’s La Liga game against Real Valladolid on May 3, days before their UCL semi-final second leg against Inter Milan.

The game, to be played away from home, is scheduled for a late-night kickoff, meaning Barça will have much less rest as they will have to travel to and from Valladolid’s stadium.

Barcelona even submitted a request to change the kickoff time but it fell on deaf ears and Flick expressed his frustration, stating that other federations try and make things easy for clubs competing in the Champions League.

Barcelona issue statement

Now, coming out in support of their manager’s words, Barcelona have issued an official statement condemning the schedule.

“FC Barcelona has already this season expressed its disagreement with the criteria set out by the Spanish Football League (LFP) and the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) with regards to dates and kick-off times for the first team,” the statement read.

“We consider, as expressed on Friday by our coach to whom we give our total support and with whom we are in complete agreement, that governing bodies of Spanish Football should be more considerate with teams, such as ours, who are taking part in all three competitions in the final part of the season.”

Not only that, but Barça go on to state that it has become a recurring issue and as such, they intend to defend the players’ and the club’s best interests which is why they will be filing a formal complaint with the relevant authorities.

“As such, FC Barcelona will make a formal complaint to the regulatory bodies of football with the aim of avoiding situations that may be to the detriment of the real stars in the world of football, the players.”
