La Liga champions Barcelona have early this week announced a fresh addition to the club’s reserve setup.
The player to have made the move to Catalunya’s capital for the season ahead? Roger Martínez.
The name of youngster Martínez had emerged as a prominent one in the media chatter surrounding Barcelona over recent days.
This came after word was forthcoming that the Blaugrana had identified him as a leading summer transfer target.
Martínez, for his part, is a 21-year-old midfielder, who generally operates in an orthodox berth in the middle of the park, but is also capable of taking to the pitch in a more advanced role.
The Spanish youth international spent the last seven seasons plying his trade on the books of Espanyol.
After his contract with the Pericos expired last month, however, Barca, on the lookout for much-needed reinforcements for the club’s reserve outfit, opened talks with Martínez’s representatives.
And as alluded to above, on Monday, such negotiations have officially borne fruit.
As per a statement across Barca Atlètic’s social media platforms:
‘FC Barcelona has reached an agreement with Roger Martínez for his transfer to Barça Atlètic. The Badalona midfielder arrives on a free transfer and is tied to the club for two seasons, until June 30, 2027.’
