Official: Barcelona star named UEFA Champions League Player of the Week | OneFootball

Following his excellent performance against Newcastle United, FC Barcelona forward Marcus Rashford has been named the UEFA Champions League Player of the Week.

In the first matchday of the 2025/26 Champions League, the 27-year-old England international started for the Blaugrana against Newcastle at St. James’ Park.

And, Rashford made his opportunity count on his return to England, scoring two brilliant goals – the first one a brilliant, well-placed header that put Barcelona ahead in the second half.

The Manchester United loanee then followed it up with a thunderous effort from just outside the box that left Nick Pope with no chance in the Newcastle goal.

Having had a rather slow start to life in Barcelona, Rashford stepped up for Barcelona in the moment of need at St. James’ Park and delivered a brilliant performance.

It has now earned the attacker the Player of the Week award for Matchday 1, with Rashford beating the likes of Dusan Vlahovic, Marcus Thuram, and Francisco Trincao for the prize.

Now that he is finally off the mark for Barcelona, Rashford will hope to build on this performance and keep scoring more goals.
