Official: Ederson agrees new Atalanta contract to 2031 after Manchester United cold feet | OneFootball

Ederson has agreed a new contract with Atalanta that will run to June 2031, after Manchester United controversially pulled out of the €45m transfer.

The deal to sell him to the Old Trafford side had been done for a total package of €45m including add-ons, and was meant to be completed after he had finished the World Cup campaign with Brazil.

Instead, amid suggestions Manchester United had changed their minds and would instead prefer to spend the money on Roma midfielder Manu Kone, they withdrew and cited problems in his medical tests.

Atalanta director of sport Cristiano Giuntoli confessed they were “stunned” by that turnaround, insist there is nothing physically wrong with Ederson, and promised to sign him to a new contract.

That agreement has now been reached and the new deal will run to June 2031 with an improved salary.

Sportitalia cite the figures as €3.5m per season wages plus performance-related bonuses, but there is no release clause.

The 27-year-old had arrived from Salernitana in the summer of 2022 and his current deal was due to expire at the end of the season.

According to the Gazzetta dello Sport, the issue was around Ederson’s right knee, after he underwent surgery to clean up the meniscus in August 2025.

It can’t have done too much damage, considering he played 3,169 minutes of football in all competition.
