Rémy Labeau-Lascary (22) was confirmed as an SCO Angers player earlier this week. However, days after the completion of the move, after the player has already trained with his new teammates, and after he had already been presented as a new Angers player, the club have had to cancel the move.

The centre-forward joined on a season-long loan from RC Lens. He is the replacement for Esteban Lepaul, who joined Stade Rennais in a €15m deal. Angers’ lack of financial means are no secret. However, the case of Labeau-Lascary has highlighted just how much the club are struggling.

An official press release said that, despite Lepaul’s departure, the wage bill, fixed by the DNCG, could not be increased. As a result, Labeau-Lascary’s contract was not approved by French football’s financial watchdog. The same goes for Steve Mounié, who will not be able to join.

Angers cite the ongoing TV rights crisis as the reason for the club’s current financial difficulties. Labeau-Lascary therefore returns to parent club Lens. As per a report from La Voix du Nord, the striker is set to join Stade Brestois on loan, where he will replace Olympique Lyonnais-bound Martin Satriano.
