Ibrahima Konaté (27) has completed a free transfer to Real Madrid, the club confirmed on Thursday. The move comes following the expiry of his contract at Liverpool.
Konaté was a mainstay in the Liverpool defence, alongside Virgil Van Dijk, however, there had been uncertainty surrounding his future. For several months, there was a lack of progress in contract negotiation talks. The France international, however, struck a positive tone regarding an extension towards the end of the season, only for no agreement to be found.
As a result, he could negotiate a free transfer to Real Madrid. The La Liga giants have confirmed that the Frenchman has signed a four-year deal.
Konaté joined Liverpool from RB Leipzig for a €40m fee back in 2021. The centre-back went on to play 183 times for Liverpool and was an important player in their Premier League title win in 2025. Last season, he played 51 times for the Merseyside club. He is currently in the US, competing in the FIFA World Cup for France.
