Official: Josip Brekalo returns to German football

Hertha BSC have confirmed the signing of Josip Brekalo from Real Oviedo.

The 27-year-old former Wolfsburg winger has signed a contract until next summer, with an option for an additional year.

“Josip has already proven his qualities at the highest level in Germany. He stands for creativity and goal threat, and we are very happy that he further strengthens our options in attack,” said Hertha sporting director Benjamin Weber.

Brekalo scored 22 goals and provided 19 assists in 129 Bundesliga appearances for Wolfsburg in the past.

After completing his return to Germany, the 27-year-old said:

“I really wanted to come here because I know what a big club this is – both its past and its future. I now want to integrate into the team as quickly as possible and help immediately.”
