Real Madrid talisman Jude Bellingham starts for England as they get set to take on Switzerland in the third quarterfinals of the UEFA Euro 2024.
Bellingham, 21, has been England’s ray of hope in a bleak tournament thus far, scoring two pivotal goals, including a stoppage-time equaliser in the Round of 16 against Slovakia.
As such, all eyes will once again be on him to deliver for the Three Lions when they step onto the field at the Merkur-Spiel Arena in Dusseldorf to face Switzerland.
There will be a change of role of sorts for Bellingham today though as England manager Gareth Southgate has tweaked his team’s formation.
With the Three Lions lining up in a 3-4-2-1 setup for this game, Bellingham will find himself in close spaces with Phil Foden as England play with two attacking midfielders through the middle behind striker and captain Harry Kane.
The width will come from the wing-backs in Bukayo Saka and Kieran Trippier.
There were concerns that Bellingham could be suspended for the match as UEFA launched an investigation into his celebratory gestures after scoring against Slovakia.
UEFA did issue a one-match ban for the Real Madrid ace, but stipulated that it could be served within a year of this decision and not immediately.
