Official statement

Getafe’s official statement confirming the signing of Martin from Real Madrid read as follows:

“Getafe C.F. and Real Madrid reach an agreement for the transfer of Mario Martin. The midfielder signs with the blue-and-white club for four more seasons.”

The 22-year-old midfielder still had a year left on his contract with Real Madrid, but following an impressive loan spell, Getafe have decided to activate the permanent purchase clause to retain him.

Martin’s impressive season

Martin came through the ranks at Real Madrid and made four first-team appearances for the Spanish capital club, after having made his debut under Carlo Ancelotti back in 2023.

Having spent the 2024/25 season on loan at Real Valladolid, he signed for Getafe on loan last summer, with the deal containing a permanent buy clause.

Under Jose Bordalas, the 22-year-old midfielder enjoyed a brilliant campaign, scoring four and assisting two goals in 37 games, while establishing himself as the team’s most reliable workhorse.

It has prompted Getafe to sign him permanently, but the statement does not specify the fee involved in the transfer.

However, according to El Chiringuito TV, Real Madrid will receive a fee of €3.5 million for 50% of Martin’s rights, meaning they will still retain 50% of the player. On top of that, Los Blancos will also have a first refusal option on the player.
