Lazio midfielder Gaetano Castrovilli has officially finalized his transfer to Monza on loan for the rest of the season.
The 27-year-old had joined the Italian capital side last summer on a free summer after being released by Fiorentina on the back of a couple of injury-riddled campaigns. But while the Euro 2020 winner was hoping to put his career back on the right track, he has been struggling for relevancy at Marco Baroni’s court, only earning 154 minutes of playing time in all competitions.
Therefore, the two parties agreed to part ways in January. Castrovilli was linked with the likes of Udinese and Hellas Verona in recent weeks, but the struggling Monza have prevailed following a swift onslaught, mostly driven by their staunch desire to lift themselves from the bottom of the Serie A table and pull off a remarkable escape from relegation.
Lazio have now confirmed the operation by posting a note on their official website, revealing that Castrovilli has now joined the Biancorossi on a dry loan until the end of the season.
SS Lazio announces that it has temporarily transferred the rights to the sporting performances of the footballer Gaetano Castrovilli to AC Monza.
It remains to be seen if the Bari youth product will be given a second chance to prove his worth at Lazio as his contract with the capital club is valid until June 2027. This could largely hinge on how well he’ll perform at the U-Power Stadium, and most importantly, if can play regularly while avoiding injuries.
