Olivier Pantaloni has been named OGC Nice manager on a two-year deal, the club confirmed on Wednesday.
Nice survived in Ligue 1 by the skin of their teeth by beating AS Saint-Étienne in a two-legged promotion/ relegation play-off. It was Claude Puel who presided over the club’s decline towards the relegation zone, having been appointed on an interim basis back in December.
However, earlier in the day, Nice confirmed that Puel would leave the club. In the same statement, it was confirmed that Maurice Cohen would remain in his post as president. And whilst the ownership situation remains up in the air, there is now more clarity at the Côte d’Azur club.
Pantaloni has been appointed first-team manager. The Corsican left FC Lorient at the end of last season after two excellent campaigns at the Moustoir. However, having led Lorient to a midtable finish last season, he left, citing a perceived lack of trust from the club’s hierarchy. Next season, he will be on the touchline at the Allianz Riviera.
