La Liga heavyweights Real Madrid have on Wednesday announced a fresh departure from the club’s first-team squad, in the form of Fran García.

This comes amid confirmation of the Spaniard having taken his talents to Real Betis on a permanent basis.

Defender Fran had of course long seen his future thrown firmly up in the air at the Santiago Bernabéu. Following the arrival of Marc Cucurella this summer, the 26-year-old was pushed ever further down the left-back pecking order in José Mourinho’s squad.

The board at the aforementioned Real Betis, on the lookout for reinforcements on the left with a view to next season, therefore opened negotiations with their counterparts in Madrid over a potential deal for Fran.

And as alluded to above, this week, talks between the parties have officially borne fruit.

As per a statement across the website and social media platforms of Real Madrid:

‘Real Madrid C. F. and Real Betis Balompié have reached an agreement for the transfer of our player Fran García.

‘Real Madrid wishes to express its gratitude and affection to a player who has always defended our jersey with dedication and exemplary behaviour.’

Betis, meanwhile, have confirmed that Fran has put pen to paper on a contract in Seville through the summer of 2030.
