Even as FC Barcelona ramp up efforts to secure their return to the Spotify Camp Nou, their first home game of the 2025/26 UEFA Champions League will not be played there.

Indeed, Barcelona are all set to host PSG on 1 October at Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys in Montjuic, as confirmed by UEFA on their official website.

Until now, it was only speculation that the match could be played in Montjuic, given that Camp Nou was unlikely to be ready to host Champions League matches.

But the information has now been updated on UEFA’s official site, confirming that Barcelona vs PSG will indeed be held in Montjuic, where preparations are already underway for the match.

Camp Nou delays continue

Barcelona had originally planned to reopen the Camp Nou for the Joan Gamper Trophy in early August, but delays meant that the match had to be held at Estadi Johan Cruyff.

The plan was then to host the first home game of the 2025/26 La Liga season at the renovated Camp Nou on 14 September, but it was again not possible, and the match ended up being played at Estadi Johan Cruyff again.

Barcelona have officially confirmed that the upcoming league game against Getafe will also be played at the same venue.

The idea now is for the Camp Nou to be reopened for the match vs Real Sociedad on 28 September – three days before the PSG encounter.

However, even if Barcelona are successful in returning to the stadium by the end of this month, hosting the Champions League match will not be possible as the lateral stand at the stadium is still not ready – a key requirement set by UEFA.

As such, Montjuic will host Barcelona’s first Champions League home game of the season vs PSG.

Under UEFA regulations, all league stage home matches must be played in the same stadium.

However, it has been suggested previously that the governing body might be willing to provide Barcelona some leeway, given the extraordinary circumstances, allowing them to switch back to Camp Nou in the middle of the league phase.

As such, the match listings on the UEFA site for the Catalans’ subsequent home matches against Olympiacos (21 Oct), Eintracht Frankfurt (9 Dec), and FC Copenhagen (28 Jan) list Camp Nou as the venue.
