After his loan agreement with Real Betis was terminated, FC Barcelona striker Vitor Roque has completed a permanent transfer to Palmeiras, the Catalans have announced.
“FC Barcelona and Sociedade Esportiva Palmeiras have reached an agreement for the transfer of the player Vitor Roque,” the statement from the club read.
“The Club wishes him all the best for the future both on and off the field.”
Roque joined Barça from Athletico Paranaense in January last year but endured a tough six-month spell under Xavi Hernandez.
With his fortunes not improving under Hansi Flick, the centre-forward was loaned out to Real Betis, where he scored seven goals in all competitions but had recently lost prominence.
With Palmeiras seeking attacking reinforcements to salvage their campaign, they pushed hard to sign the 20-year-old striker.
Despite some complications, involving negotiations with Real Betis and some hurdles from La Liga and the RFEF, Barcelona and Palmeiras have successfully completed the operation.
While it is not mentioned in the statement, Barça will receive a transfer fee of €25.5 million for the youngster plus another €5 million in add-ons.
It will ensure that they did not suffer any losses from his signing while also creating Fair Play space to tie down some new contract renewals.
