Wolfsburg officially confirmed the signing of Sheffield United’s Vinicius Souza on Saturday. The 26-year-old heads to the Bundesliga from the Championship for a reported transfer fee of €15m. Though he featured in England’s second division last season, Souza also brings with him the experience of 36 Premier League appearances while representing Sheffield United.

Souza’s professional path also enabled him to accrue top flight experience in Belgian, Brazil, and Spain. The former Brazilian U20 international earned plenty of praise from his EFL coach and Sheffield club supporters last season. Wolfsburg have made Souza their marquee summer signing. The defensive midfielder cost more than three times the amount of recent addition Aaron Zehnter.

“Vini brings a wealth of experience from various leagues,” VfL sporting director Sebastian Schindzielorz noted in a club statement. “We have followed his development over the years at his various clubs. We are very pleased that he has now chosen VfL Wolfsburg. We are convinced that Vini will strengthen our team with his style-of-play.“

“I’m really looking forward to the challenge in the Bundesliga and at VfL Wolfsburg,” the player himself added. “The talks with the club officials were very positive from the start and I feel that I can take the next step in my career here.”
